It might be rainy and cold outside, but there’s plenty to keep us warm with this month’s Real Fabulous Wedding! Let us transport you to a beautiful summer’s day in August, for the ‘secret garden’ wedding of Sarah-Leigh and Jeff.

The 90-acre historic landscape and French-style mansion of Wrest Park in Bedfordshire provided the backdrop for the couple’s elegant nuptials. After decades behind virtually closed doors, Wrest Park has been recently restored by English Heritage and hailed as one of Britain’s largest and most important ‘secret gardens’.

A truly regal affair, the wedding was styled in ivory with hints of gold and peacock, and an elegant sprinkling of feathers, pearls and sparkles. Continuing the aristocratic theme, the bride & groom made their entrance in an open-top Landau Carriage and Beauford respectively.

The marquee reception certainly didn’t leave their guests short on entertainment – including an operatic “singing waiters” duo and a stunning fireworks display. And all this before mentioning the star turn…

Sarah-Leigh and Jeff chose Schwing to entertain them and their guests with their contagious repertoire of Swing and Italian Classics, and dancefloor-filling Pop and Soul.

Here’s what they had to say at the end of the night:

“It was an absolute pleasure to have you share our day with us – it is because of your fantastic job as our band that made it extra special! Schwing were spectacular and our guests danced the whole night. I cannot recall one second where the dance floor was empty, that was a fear of mine and you stopped it from happening – BRILLIANT!!  The feedback we got about you was wonderful everyone said you went above and beyond and i 100% agree with them!”

Happy 2014! As we’re busy looking ahead to this year’s wedding trends, it’s also a good moment to look back and celebrate the best of 2013. So what a wonderful way to kick off the New Year with an absolute corker of a “Real Fabulous Wedding” from late August: Annika & Charlie‘s Shropshire wedding, featuring The Milestones of Motown, Disco, Funk & Soul.

The couple tied the knot in gorgeous rustic style:  golden autumnal hues, dramatic wheat sheaf centre pieces (created by the bride’s mother) and fabulous, 5-tiered “cheese” wedding cake! Here Annika & Charlie tell us why they chose The Milestones to perform at their wedding, and why their guests said it was the best wedding they’d ever been to…

Did the band live up to your expectations?
The Milestones really made the evening a success! We saw them a year ago at Dover Street and thought they were brilliant, and on Saturday they were even more fantastic! We hope to book them again one day in the future when we have a good excuse for a party, Charlie and I are also going to make it an annual wedding anniversary celebration by going to see them every year with our close family.

What did your guests think of the band?
We have heard so many comments throughout the evening, and days after of how fantastic they were, and how most wedding bands can be a let-down so it was really refreshing to everyone. So many of our guests have also told us it was the best wedding they have ever been to, which is a lovely compliment for me and Charlie, but we definitely owe some of that credit to The Milestones as well!

What were you looking for in a live band?
We really wanted a band that was different from the norm, that would get everyone on the dance floor from start to finish and they truly delivered, with great vocals and the music that appealed to all age groups. They really gave a great performance, and interacted with our guests. They are extremely talented and we wish them all the best, please pass on our thanks again for such a wonderful evening.

Boy, have we got a treat in store for you this month… Rachel & Richard’s colourful, elegant wedding – where Rustic Chic met Victorian Seaside Splendour.

They were keen to reflect their love of the Ocean in their day –  having met whilst working in Sydney, Australia and doing their Scuba Dive Masters in Thailand together.

Rachel & Richard opted for a quirky and elegant wedding ceremony by the sea at Brighton Bandstand, famous for its stunning ornate Victorian architecture.

The couple then rode their jaunty VW Camper Van “Peanut” to the reception venue at Nymans Gardens, Handcross – a 20th Century National Trust gardens, set amidst the romantic ruins of a fairytale gothic mansion, complete with very fabulous wedding teepee.

The Milestones of Motown, Disco, Funk & Soul entertained them & their guests and had the dancefloor thronging all night. Even Rachel’s mother (who claims not to have danced for about 40 years) was up on her feet!

  • Sophie & Chris’s Breathtaking Lake District Wedding

A fabulous welcome to Sophie & Chris, who tied the knot this June against the stunning backdrop of the Lake District, famous of course as one of England’s most outstanding areas of natural beauty.

Their rustic marquee celebration in Kendal was full of fun and laughter. The bride & groom busted some serious moves during their first dance to Toploader’s ‘Dancing In The Moonlight’ and they chose Soul Fiesta to entertain them and their guests throughout the evening. The band blew everyone away with their unique mix of Soul, Funk, Disco and Latin, bringing a little bit of carnival spirit to the farthest reaches of the English countryside!

Here’s how Soul Fiesta helped to make Sophie & Chris’s wedding day so special for them…

What did you and your guests think of Soul Fiesta?

“Everybody, young and old loved them and that was evident from the number of people crowding onto the dance floor all the time they were playing. I think a lot of our guests were stunned by the band, especially up here in Cumbria. They thought they were coming to the desolate and unsophisticated North and so had quite a surprise! Their repertoire really fitted the bill and contrasted with the music the DJ played and at the end of the night – nobody wanted them to stop!”

    sophchr5

How did you know the band were ‘The One’?

“We felt we were taking a bit of a gamble in making this booking as we selected the band from an internet search followed up by a phone call to Brad and listening to Soul Fiesta’s soundtrack online. It is easy to make a soundtrack better than the real thing but Soul Fiesta’s soundtrack represents the real thing and our gamble certainly paid off”.

    sophchr6

How did you find dealing with the band?

“A few days before the wedding Charlie contacted me and we had a good chat about both our requirements and theirs. This is so important in making things run smoothly. He also telephoned on the day to tell me that they were 40 mins away. They were well organised, quick and discrete in setting up as the speeches were going on whilst they were sorting themselves out but they were totally unobtrusive. We were sorry not to have had more time to be able to chat with them a bit as they seemed to be lovely, friendly and interesting people”.

Congratulations to you both, Sophie & Chris! xx

Real Fabulous Weddings comes to you this month from the famous rolling dales of North Yorkshire, as gorgeous bride & groom Hannah & Richard tied the knot at The Old Swan Hotel in Harrogate.

The historic venue, which exudes romance and mystery (crime writer Agatha Christie famously disappeared from the hotel in 1926), created the perfect backdrop for a wedding which combined Victorian Splendour with Contemporary Luxury.

    RichardHanna2

The couple chose Schwing to entertain them and their guests, as they wanted to bring a splash of retro-style panache to their party, and fell in love with the band at a friend’s wedding.

    RichardHanna3

Schwing’s repertoire of Swing Band and Italian Classics, combined with dance-floor filling Pop and Soul, meant that the party was still going strong well into the night…

At one point, Hannah & Richard even jumped up on stage with the band to serenade their guests, which proved a huge hit with the crowd!
